A 10-year-old boy from Rajasthan was honored this week in New Delhi. He received a national bravery award. His name is Ajay Raj. He saved his father from a crocodile attack earlier this year.
Ajay was one of twenty children to get the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for 2025. The awards were given on January 22. The President of India gave out the awards. She praised the children for their commitment and skill.
How the Brave Act Happened
The incident happened in Dholpur district. This is in Rajasthan’s Chambal region. Ajay and his father went to a river to collect water. Suddenly, a crocodile came out of the water. It grabbed his father’s leg.
The powerful animal began pulling his father toward the river. Ajay did not run away. He quickly picked up a stick. He started hitting the crocodile with it again and again. He also shouted loudly for help.
His brave action worked. The crocodile let go of his father’s leg. His father was able to pull free. Villagers heard the shouts and ran to help. They brought both Ajay and his injured father to safety.
A Local Hero Gets National Fame
After the attack, news of Ajay’s bravery spread. People across his district talked about it. Local officials and residents recommended him for an award. This led to him receiving the national Bal Puraskar for bravery.
His father was hurt but is now recovering. Ajay was not injured in the fight.
Safety Warnings for River Areas
After this event, local authorities gave new warnings. They told people to be very careful near riverbanks. This is especially important during the monsoon season. Crocodile movement increases at that time.
Officials asked villagers not to go alone to collect water from risky areas. They should also report any crocodile sightings immediately.
