A shocking home security video shows a car crashing into a backyard. The incident happened in Laughlin. The driver was thrown into the family’s swimming pool.
The video shows the car moving at a very high speed. It goes off the road and becomes airborne. It flies like a missile into a residential backyard. The car hits a block wall first. Then it flips and spins violently in the air.
The crashing car slams into the roof of the house. Part of the roof caves in from the impact. The force of the crash catapults the driver out of the car. The driver lands in the home’s swimming pool.
Homeowner Cletis Reed described the moment. He said he heard a loud bang. It sounded like a freight train. He ran outside to check. He found his backyard completely destroyed.
His patio was ruined. A woman was floating in his pool. Reed said he was almost in the hot tub when it happened. He had just opened the cover. He went inside to tell his wife something. That decision likely saved his life.
The pool was only waist-deep in the shallow end. The driver landed there. Concrete and block walls surround the pool. Reed and neighbors rushed to help. They pulled the driver from the water.
Reed said the woman was conscious but moaning. She floated face up, then face down. They got her out. About 15 minutes later, she was standing and talking to police.
A crash report states the driver was speeding. The driver failed to stop. The car hit a block wall, went rotating in the air, and ejected the driver into the pool.
The car was badly wrecked. It was stuck in the backyard. A tow truck had to use a crane to remove it.
Reed built his backyard as a retirement oasis. It had a resort-style pool. The crash destroyed the patio. Motor oil contaminated the 25,000-gallon pool. Reed thinks repairs may cost nearly $300,000. The pool might need to be completely drained.
The driver was taken to a hospital in Arizona. Records show the driver has past traffic violations. Police have not yet confirmed if charges will be filed.
Reed says he is having trouble sleeping. He keeps replaying the event in his mind. He says both he and the driver were very lucky.
