April 20, 2026: Traffic restrictions have been imposed in Islamabad due to high-level security arrangements linked to possible talks involving the United States and Iran.
Authorities have announced a detailed traffic management plan to control movement in the city. Several key roads are closed, and diversions are now in place until further notice.
The Islamabad Expressway from Korral to Zero Point is completely closed. Traffic on Srinagar Highway may also face temporary suspensions.
The Red Zone and nearby areas are fully sealed for all vehicles. This includes important government and diplomatic locations.
Residents of sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 are advised to use Margalla Road and Ninth Avenue for travel to and from Rawalpindi.
Traffic from Faisal Avenue and Zero Point is being diverted toward Ninth Avenue. Commuters heading from Zero Point to Korral Chowk should use alternative routes such as Srinagar Highway, Stadium Road, Murree Road, Ninth Avenue, or Rawal Road.
If Park Road or Club Road is blocked, traffic will be redirected via Tramri Chowk. Residents of Bhara Kahu should use Kurang Road, Bani Gala, or Lehtrar Road for smoother travel.
People coming from Rawalpindi’s Saddar area can use Colonel Sher Khan Road, Fakir Aipi Road, or Ninth Avenue.
Authorities have also banned heavy vehicles from entering Islamabad until further notice.
Travelers moving between Peshawar and Lahore are advised to use the motorway via Taxila, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road to reach Rawat GT Road. The same route should be used for return journeys.
Officials have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Islamabad during this period to reduce inconvenience.
