Is ARC Raiders Down? Game and Web Services Report Widespread Christmas Eve Outages

Many online services and games are facing major problems tonight. The issues are happening on Christmas Eve. Popular games like ARC Raiders are reportedly down.

Thousands of users are reporting outages. The problems are affecting gaming platforms and web services.

ARC Raiders and Other Games Hit by Outages

The online game ARC Raiders appears to be down. This is according to reports from players and tracking websites.

Downdetector is a site that monitors online service status. It shows a large spike in problem reports for ARC Raiders. As of this writing, about 21,000 users in the U.S. have reported issues.

Players are getting a specific error message. It is the “ART00004 Network Timeout” error. This is happening across different platforms. It affects players on Xbox, PlayStation 5 (PS5), and PC.

The problems started around 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Reports increased very quickly. By 8:52 PM ET, outage reports jumped to around 45,000.

ARC Raiders is not the only game with problems. Other popular titles are also affected.

Players of Rocket League are reporting errors. They are seeing “Epic Online Services (EOS) timeout” messages. Players of Fall Guys are having trouble too. They report issues with matchmaking and logging in.

Wider Service Outages: Steam, PlayStation, and Amazon Web Services

The problems seem to extend beyond just games. Major online platforms are also reporting issues.

The gaming platform Steam is reportedly down for some users. The PlayStation Network (PSN) is also experiencing problems.

A key point of concern is Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is a major cloud computing provider. Many online games and apps use its infrastructure for their backend systems.

Downdetector also shows a spike in reports for AWS. It indicates an outage starting around 8:40 PM Eastern Time.

Users on social media platform X are talking about the AWS outage. The Kobeissi Letter, a finance newsletter, also shared news of the problem.

However, Amazon has officially denied there is an outage.

Amazon’s Response: Denial of Problems

Amazon Web Services has responded directly to the claims. The company posted a reply on social media.

They specifically replied to The Kobeissi Letter. The AWS account wrote: “No, that’s false. AWS services are operating normally today, but an event elsewhere on the internet has prompted some inaccurate speculation on social media.”

The statement continued. It said the only accurate source for AWS status is its official “AWS Health Dashboard.”

Despite this denial, many users continue to report problems. They say they are having issues with services that rely on AWS cloud infrastructure.

A History of Similar Problems

Both Amazon Web Services and ARC Raiders have faced outages before. This is not the first major incident.

In October, AWS had a significant global outage. It caused problems for many major platforms. Services like Reddit, Snapchat, Venmo, and Zoom were affected.

That outage started in a major AWS data center in Virginia. It was related to the Domain Name System (DNS). This system helps computers find websites and services online.

AWS later issued a detailed statement. They apologized for the disruption to customers worldwide.

ARC Raiders also had a previous outage in November. At that time, over 29,000 users reported problems with the game. Players flooded social media to complain.

What This Means for Players on Christmas Eve

The timing is unfortunate for many gamers. Christmas Eve is a popular time for people to play new games and connect online.

The cause of the current widespread issues is still unclear. With Amazon denying an AWS problem, the source may be a different internet event.

Players are advised to be patient. They should check the official status pages for the specific games or services they are trying to use.

Game developers and service providers are likely working to fix the problems. Updates on the situation are expected to follow.
