Police have found a body in the search for a missing teenager. The body is believed to be that of Tom Dingle, a 19-year-old university student from Wigan.
Tom was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, December 13th. He was spotted walking alone in Appley Bridge, West Lancashire. This was captured on CCTV footage. He was reported missing soon after.
An extensive search was launched. It involved police and the local community. The search lasted nearly two weeks.
In a sad update on Christmas Day, police announced a discovery. A member of the public found a body in woodland off Lees Lane in Dalton. The discovery was made at 3:12 p.m. on December 25th.
Police confirmed they believe the body is Tom’s. Formal identification has not yet been completed. Tom’s family has been informed. They are being supported by specially trained officers.
Police stated that Tom’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be passed to the coroner for an inquest.
Tom was a student at Lancaster University. The university had previously issued an appeal for information. They expressed deep concern for his welfare.
