Police Hunt for Mahad Elmi, Prisoner Who Escaped on Christmas Day

Police are searching for a man who escaped from prison. The escape happened on Christmas Day. The inmate left HMP Springhill prison in Buckinghamshire.

The prisoner’s name is Mahad Elmi. He is 27 years old. He escaped sometime overnight. The escape was between Thursday, December 25, and Friday morning, December 26.

Thames Valley Police are leading the search. They are asking the public for help. They want anyone with information to contact them.

What Does Mahad Elmi Look Like?

Police have released a description. Elmi is a black man. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has a medium build. He has medium-length black hair and a beard. He has brown eyes.

Police also say he has known links to South West London. This means he might have connections or family there.

What Have Police Said?

Detective Sergeant Matthew French spoke about the case. He is part of the Buckinghamshire Priority Crime Team. He said, “We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Mahad Elmi.”

He confirmed Elmi is “unlawfully at large.” This means he left the prison illegally and has not returned.

Police ask anyone with information to call 101. People can also make a report online. They must quote the reference number: 43250653119.

Recent Prison Escape Incident

This news comes after another escape attempt earlier in December. A different prisoner, Dylan Harrison, 33, tried to flee police in South Wales. That happened on September 25. He shouted, “I’m not going back to jail.” He tried to jump over a wall but broke his back.

Harrison had been arrested for domestic violence offences. His case is separate from the search for Mahad Elmi.

The search for Mahad Elmi continues. Police urge the public not to approach him. They ask people to call 999 immediately if they see him.
