Salt Lake City – A tragic mass shooting occurred outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Wednesday night, leaving two dead and six others injured, police confirmed. The incident took place during a funeral service, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Shooting
Authorities say the attack was likely not random, and a manhunt is ongoing for the suspected shooter. Police have stated they do not believe the attack targeted any particular religion.
Of the six injured, three are reported to be in critical condition, according to KSTU-TV. All victims are adults.

Salt Lake City police are currently reviewing surveillance footage and license plate records to track the suspect. Several individuals have already been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Police Chief Brian Redd told reporters:

Eyewitness Account
Brennan McIntire, a nearby resident, recalled hearing gunshots while watching TV. He ran outside and saw a person lying on the ground near the church parking lot.
This is the ninth mass shooting in the U.S. in 2026, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The organization defines a mass shooting as an incident where four or more people are injured or killed, not including the shooter.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
