Darbhanga, Bihar – Shravan Das, a storyteller from the Mithilanchal region, has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault case involving a minor girl, police confirmed on Monday.
Police Arrest and Investigation
The arrest was carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajiv Kumar, according to Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jagunath Reddy. The operation involved a joint effort by the Women’s Police Station, Laheriasarai Police Station, and other nearby units. The accused was apprehended from the Housing Board Colony after receiving a tip-off.
Allegations Against Shravan Das
According to the FIR filed at the Women’s Police Station, Shravan Das allegedly sexually exploited a minor girl over a period of time after promising to marry her. The complaint, lodged by the victim’s mother, also states that the accused forced the minor to undergo an abortion.
The police are also investigating the role of Mauni Baba, described as an associate and guru of Shravan Das, who is currently absconding. The SSP confirmed that Shravan Das is being interrogated in detail, and further legal proceedings are ongoing.
Political Reaction
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Bihar government over recent crimes against women and minors in the state. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he accused the Nitish Kumar-led administration of shielding criminals and remaining silent on incidents across Madhepura, Khagaria, and Patna.
Yadav stated that the government has become “a reliable tool for oppressors and criminals” and condemned the police for using force against protesters while allegedly protecting those accused of crimes against women and children.
