April 2026: Authorities in Islamabad have announced a reduction in public transport fares after a major drop in diesel prices. The price of diesel has been cut by Rs 32 per liter, bringing relief to commuters.
Officials confirmed that a 5% reduction in inter-city and inter-provincial bus fares has been implemented immediately across the country.
From Lahore, fares to several major cities have been reduced. The fare to Karachi has dropped from Rs 5,390 to Rs 5,120, while the fare to Hyderabad has decreased from Rs 5,020 to Rs 4,770.
Travel to Moro is now cheaper, with fares reduced from Rs 4,550 to Rs 4,320. Similarly, the fare to Sukkur has gone down from Rs 3,630 to Rs 3,450.
Routes to southern Punjab have also seen cuts. Fares from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and nearby areas have dropped from Rs 2,370 to Rs 2,250.
Other routes include reduced fares to Ahmedpur Sharqia, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Multan, with prices lowered by around Rs 100 on average.
Fares to northern and western areas have also been cut. Travel from Lahore to Dera Ismail Khan is now Rs 3,120 instead of Rs 3,285, while fares to Bannu have dropped from Rs 2,510 to Rs 2,380.
Authorities have directed transporters to strictly follow the new fare list. They warned that overcharging passengers will lead to strict action.
The move aims to provide direct relief to the public and ensure fair pricing in the transport sector.
