Jake Paul has gone to the hospital. This follows his heavyweight boxing match with Anthony Joshua. The fight happened in Miami. Paul is suspected to have a broken jaw.
The American boxer fought for six rounds. His opponent was Anthony Joshua, a two-time world champion. Paul could not continue after being knocked down multiple times.
He was knocked down twice in the fifth round. He was knocked down again in the sixth round. After the fight, Paul spoke about his injury. He said he believed his jaw was “definitely” broken.
The 28-year-old did not attend the post-fight news conference. Nakisa Bidarian explained why. Bidarian is the head of Most Valuable Promotions. He confirmed Paul went to the hospital.
“We think he broke his jaw. But he’s fine,” Bidarian said. “He took a shower, he drove himself to the hospital. A broken jaw is very common in sports, particularly in boxing or MMA. The recovery time is four to six weeks.”
Paul was not expected to win this fight. His strategy was to use his speed. He tried to avoid Joshua’s powerful punches. The fight received some criticism. Many pointed out the difference in size and experience between the two men.
Paul has usually fought at a lower weight class, called cruiserweight. After the fight, he discussed his future plans. He said he intends to take “some time off” from boxing.
“We will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight. I’m going for the cruiserweight world title,” Paul stated. “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years.”
