A 22-year-old woman from Karnataka’s Bidar district died by suicide after allegedly facing continuous harassment and abuse by her in-laws. The incident has been reported from Basavakalyan and is currently under police investigation, according to an NDTV report.
The woman, identified as Anjanabai Shekhar Patil, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence. Police say the case came to light following a complaint filed by her father, Vijaykumar.
Allegations of Harassment and Abuse
According to the complaint, Anjanabai was subjected to repeated mental and physical torture after her marriage. Her family alleged that she was pressured into prostitution and faced domestic abuse for refusing to comply.
The complaint further stated that the harassment caused severe emotional distress, which may have pushed her into taking the extreme step.
Marriage and Family Background
Anjanabai was married to Shekhar Patil, a resident of Basavakalyan. The couple has an 11-month-old infant, as mentioned in the report.
Her father alleged that his daughter had informed him about the abuse but was unable to escape the situation due to pressure from her marital family.
Police Action and Arrests
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and booked three accused, including the husband, Shekhar Patil. Two other members of the family have also been named in the case.
All three accused have been arrested. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway to verify all allegations and gather evidence.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are examining the circumstances leading to Anjanabai’s death and are recording statements from family members and other relevant witnesses.
Police said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
