Renowned Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla has died. He passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 89 years old. His family confirmed the news. He died due to age-related health problems.

Shukla was admitted to AIIMS in Raipur on December 2. He was having trouble breathing. Earlier this year, he was also treated at a private hospital. He was later discharged when he got better.

In 2024, he received a great honour. He was given the 59th Jnanpith Award. This is India’s highest literary prize. He was the first writer from Chhattisgarh to win this award.

Shukla was famous for his simple writing style. He used everyday language. His stories were minimal yet powerful. He blended ordinary life with magical imagination. Readers loved his unique way of telling stories.

Some of his most popular books are Naukar Ki Kameez and Khilega To Dekhenge. Other well-known works include Lagbhag Jai Hind and Ek Chuppi Jagah.

He is survived by his wife, his son Shashwat, and a daughter. His son told the press that Shukla had been facing health issues for the last few months.

Earlier this year, Shukla gave an interview. He talked about his writing journey. He also spoke about winning the Jnanpith Award. He said that writers do not write for awards. He believed recognition comes naturally if you stay true to writing.

He shared memories of his early life in Rajnandgaon. His first poetry book was Lagbhag Jai Hind. It was published with help from poet Ashok Vajpeyi. Shukla also said his mother loved Bengali literature. This love for books influenced him from a young age.

Vinod Kumar Shukla’s death is a great loss. It marks the end of an era in Hindi literature. He leaves behind a lasting legacy. His quiet and profound stories will continue to inspire readers.
