Researchers have found pieces of old pottery in Turkey. They were found near a site some people believe is Noah’s Ark. The discovery has started a new discussion about the famous Bible story.

The pottery fragments were found at the Durupinar Formation. This is a boat-shaped rock structure on Mount Ararat in Turkey. A professor from Agri University, Dr. Faruk Kaya, announced the find. The pieces were uncovered during road construction work.

    What the Pottery Tells Us

The experts say the pottery is very old. They date it to between 5500 BC and 3000 BC. This time is called the Chalcolithic period. Finding pottery is a strong sign that people lived in an area long ago.

Dr. Kaya said the find shows there was “human activity in this region” during that ancient time. Some people connect this timeframe with the era of the Biblical figure Noah.

    The Link to Noah’s Ark

The story of Noah’s Ark is in the Book of Genesis in the Bible. It says a great flood covered the Earth. Noah built a huge ark to save his family and animals. The Bible says the ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat.”

The Durupinar Formation has interested explorers for decades because of its boat-like shape. Its size is also similar to the ark’s description in the Bible. The new pottery discovery is seen by some as a clue that people were there at the right time.

    Calls to Protect the Site

Dr. Kaya and other scientists are worried about the site. They say tourists are damaging it. Visitors sometimes take stones and rocks as souvenirs. They are calling for the area to be officially protected.

“There is no other structure like this in the world,” Dr. Kaya said. He wants a museum or research center built nearby to protect and study the site.

    Not Everyone is Convinced

Many scientists and archaeologists do not believe the Durupinar Formation is Noah’s Ark. They say there is no strong geological evidence for a worldwide flood. They argue that ancient societies in Egypt and Mesopotamia show no signs of such a disaster.

A British archaeologist, Mike Pitt, once asked a key question. He said if a flood was powerful enough to place a ship on a mountain, there would be proof all over the world. He stated that this proof does not exist.

The discovery of the pottery is an important archaeological find. It proves people lived in the area thousands of years ago. However, it does not directly prove the existence of Noah’s Ark. The debate between science and faith continues.
