A model and pet sitter, Amber Dowling-Doyle, 24, has come forward to support a campaign calling for women-only carriages on the London Underground after surviving a sexual assault on the Elizabeth Line in June 2025.
Amber was travelling from Liverpool Street to Essex after work when a man approached her while she was wearing earphones. Despite trying to ignore him, he grabbed her arm, blocked her path, and sexually assaulted her, placing his hand on her leg. The attack was interrupted when passengers intervened, including a man who tackled the assailant while someone else alerted British Transport Police, who arrested the perpetrator at Stratford Station.
Since the assault, Amber has undergone therapy and described her ongoing fear of returning to trains, saying she felt “terrified” and constantly on edge. The attacker, whose name Amber chose not to learn, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was sentenced to a 16-week suspended prison term and £900 in compensation at Thames Magistrates Court in December 2025.
Amber is now supporting a petition calling for at least one women-only carriage on all Tube lines, which has garnered nearly 15,000 signatures. The campaign comes after Transport for London (TfL) revealed 595 sexual offences on the Underground in 2024-25, the highest figure in five years.
Amber urged other survivors to report sexual assaults to the police, emphasizing: “Don’t be scared… sometimes you have to be a little bit uncomfortable to be free.” A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed that all incidents are taken seriously and encouraged passengers to use their discreet text line, 61016, for help.
